Lisa Korthals, in Memoriam
It’s been hard to sit down and write this because what exactly does one say? We were in shock, along with everyone else, when we got the news last Thursday morning. A friend and colleague, gone unexpectedly, abruptly, far too soon.
“The Mountains are calling and I must go.” John Muir
Some people dream of taking a heli-ski trip, saving up for that once in a lifetime adventure. Lisa got to live that adventure everyday. This lifestyle brought her here, to Whistler and Pemberton, to live life as she imagined.
Many knew Lisa in her life as an adventurer. At Sea to Sky Real Estate, we knew her a bit differently, albeit with the same “Lisa” values. She was a woman who knew herself. The integrity of her character shone through her actions whether she was ski touring, guiding, or conducting real estate business.
She always called or emailed when she couldn’t make a sales meeting or an office event for which she had RSVP’d. It may seem trivial, but it wasn’t to me. It demonstrated the respect she had for her colleagues.
She took care of her people. Whether that be while guiding a heli-ski group, or helping her clients. It was a quiet undertone of her nature, but it was prevalent in her work, and surely her home life.
Lisa always found the good. She would be texting to me about something that had come up in the office, and she’d snap a photo of wherever she was that day and send it along. Texting about real estate while doing recon of terrain and snow for guiding clients the next day: “Windy day, skiing is terrible” but a few minutes later “We found a hot spring”.
That was the Lisa we knew: Friend, Wife, Mother, Guide. She lived up to her values. She was real and down to earth. She respected people and was respected. She took care of her people. She loved her family; and her dog Max. She found the good. She would probably not say it of herself, but she was a woman to look up to. Lisa was a serious person, yet she had an undeniable twinkle in her eyes. And she was a badass skier. (Proof here)
