City halls across Metro Vancouver are facing a daunting mountain of work as municipalities plug away at implementing new housing legislation passed by the provincial government.
“I don’t think it’s been well documented that this legislation is very challenging to implement. It is substantial work to go through,” Coquitlam city manager Raul Allueva said at a March 5 panel discussion in Vancouver hosted by the Urban Land Institute British Columbia industry association. OTTAWA — The Liberal government has finalized all of its deals with municipalities under the housing accelerator fund, a program it says has triggered Canada’s biggest-ever movement to increase residential density.

Interest Rate Announcement: “Too Early to Loosen Restrictive Policy”

The Bank of Canada has held its benchmark interest rate at 5%, marking the fifth consecutive pause after a tightening campaign in 2023 aimed at easing high inflation. It appears to be working, with the inflation rate easing back to 2.9 per cent in January, however underlying price pressures persist.
