Vancouver ‘one of the most resilient cities’ for commercial real estate

The future is bright for Vancouver’s commercial real estate market, with one expert labelling the city as “one of the most resilient markets in the world.”
That’s according to Paul Morassutti, chairman of commercial real estate firm CBRE, who addressed a room of hundreds of attendees at the Vancouver Real Estate Forum on April 3 about what he thinks is in store for the office, retail and industrial markets in the coming year. Read more…
B.C. real estate tax evasion and avoidance audits hit $1.3B since 2015
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) continues to unearth hundreds of millions of dollars of tax avoidance and evasion in B.C. real estate transactions annually.
Between April 2022 and March 2023, the agency issued $171.9 million of re-assessments from 1,998 files, according to the latest published figures of the agency’s real estate non-compliance tax audit program. Read more…

Are taxes impacting homebuying activity in Canada? It’s true, according to a new RE/MAX survey. More young Canadians say that taxes are negatively impacting their purchase decisions, with polling data revealing that 40 per cent of Generation Zers and 35 per cent of millennials saying land transfer tax, or LTT, has influenced their journey to home ownership. Canada Launches $6 Billion Housing and Infrastructure Fund

The Canadian government announced a new $6 billion Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, an initiative to bolster residential property construction and upgrade vital components necessary to build new homes.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the fund will dedicate $1 billion for so-called urgent infrastructure needs, such as upgrading solid waste, stormwater, and wastewater infrastructure.
